ASSISTANT PROSECUTOR ROBIN SCHEINER
RECEIVES STATEWIDE AWARD

Trenton, NJ — Assistant Prosecutor Robin Scheiner was recently presented the 2001 New Jersey Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Award at an awards luncheon held at the Princeton Marriott.  Each year, NJ CAP recognizes people around the state who have worked as tireless advocates for child abuse prevention.

Scheiner was nominated by Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto and selected by a 12-person subcommittee of the NJ CAP Advisory Board.  According to Pat Stanislaski, executive director of the NJ CAP Regional Training Center, “Nominations for the various categories were reflective of the entire state and represented well-known child advocates as well as what one nominator called ‘the unsung, common people.’”

Since 1985, more than one million children and 250,000 parents and teachers have participated in CAP’s abuse prevention workshops.  Each year, the NJ CAP sponsors a luncheon to honor those who have made the prevention of child abuse a priority in their lives.  By recognizing their efforts, Stanislaski said, “we send a message to our state and to our nation – children are, indeed, our most precious resource.”

Scheiner has been an assistant prosecutor with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for more than 12 years.  She is currently chief of the Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Unit.  Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Scheiner taught middle school for six and a half years.  She sits on numerous boards and committees that deal with the area of child abuse prevention and education.

“When prosecution is necessary, there is no more forceful, vigorous or victim-sensitive advocate than Robin Scheiner.  There is absolutely no one who works more tirelessly in attempts to educate the public, train the police and comfort victims,” said Giaquinto.  “Through Robin’s efforts, countless members of the community have been taught the effects of child abuse, on both victims and society.  Her numerous speaking engagements have served to highlight the messages of this office.”

Scheiner received her law degree from Ohio Northern University College of Law and her bachelor’s degree in speech from Emerson College in Boston, Mass.  She also completed a graduate program in English education at New York State University.
