MAN INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER

Trenton, NJ — A Trenton man accused of repeatedly punching and kicking his girlfriend, resulting in her death, was indicted today for aggravated manslaughter, Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto announced.

Bobbie Gene Hood (DOB 6/28/54), of the first block of Melon Street in Trenton, was indicted on a single-count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter.  If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, Giaquinto said.

The incident occurred at the couple’s Melon Street address on July 9, 2000 at approximately 3:30 p.m.  During a domestic dispute, Hood punched and kicked April Thompson, 35, multiple times.  Thompson was taken to Capital Health System, Mercer Campus, where she died the next day.

Hood is currently being held in the Mercer County Corrections Center.  Superior Court Judge Charles A. Delehey revoked the defendant’s bail on December 11, 2000.

Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Meidt presented the case to the grand jury.

Despite having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
