MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER
Trenton,
NJ — A Ewing man who allegedly stabbed and bludgeoned his victim to death was
indicted today on a murder charge, Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto
announced.
Malvern L. Lewis (DOB 5/17/65), of the 1600 block of Sixth Street in Ewing, was charged in a multi-count indictment in the death of Clarence Brown, 35, of the 100 block of North Overbrook Avenue in Trenton. If convicted, Thomas could be sentenced to life in prison, required to spend at least 30 years in prison without parole, Giaquinto said.
The
murder occurred in the early morning hours of May 7, 2000 at the North Overlook
residence Brown was sharing with girlfriend Madeline Rosado, 23.
Police reports indicate Brown suffered from multiple stab wounds as well
as blunt traumas inflicted by a “Club,” a motor vehicle anti-theft device.
A
few hours later, Rosado, the defendant’s ex-girlfriend, arrived home from a
day-trip to Atlantic City. Lewis
was waiting for her inside the residence. When
she entered, Lewis stabbed her in the shoulder, and then fled on foot. Lewis turned himself in to the Ewing Township police later
that afternoon.
In
addition to the murder charge, Lewis was indicted on charges of aggravated
assault, contempt of the court order that barred him from contact with Rosado,
and weapons offenses. He is
currently being held in the Mercer County Corrections Center in lieu of $500,000
bail. Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Meidt presented the case to the
grand jury.
Despite
having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty
beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
