Trenton, NJ — Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph L. Bocchini Jr. announced that Jonathan Nyce was indicted today by a Mercer County grand jury for the murder of his 34-year-old wife, Michelle.
Nyce
(DOB 5/26/50), of Keithwood Court, Titusville, was charged in a multi-count
indictment with first-degree murder and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.
If convicted, Nyce could face a maximum sentence of life in prison,
Bocchini said.
According
to police records, in the early morning hours of January 16, 2004, Nyce
forcefully removed his wife from the driver’s side compartment of her SUV and
threw her face-forward to the ground multiple times.
Michelle Nyce’s body was found in her vehicle at approximately 8 a.m.
in Jacobs Creek, not far from her home.
An
autopsy completed on January 17, 2004, determined the cause of death to be blunt
force trauma to the head. Jonathan Nyce was arrested and charged with his
wife’s murder on January 18, 2004.
Nyce
remains in the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $2 million cash bail. His next court appearance will be an arraignment.
No date has been scheduled.
Assistant
Prosecutor Thomas Meidt presented the case to the grand jury.
Despite having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
