Trenton,
NJ — Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto and U.S. Marshal James
Plousis announced that a serial rapist was arrested without incident yesterday
in Los Angeles, California, as the result of an investigation by the New
York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Lloyd
Lindsey (DOB 6/16/63), whose last known Trenton address was the 200 block of
Highland Avenue, has been the number one most wanted fugitive listed on the
prosecutor’s web site and was featured just this past Saturday night on the
television show “America’s Most
Wanted.” He was arrested
about 4 p.m. yesterday at an apartment in Los Angeles by members of a sister
task force.
Regional
task force members Joseph Angarone, a Mercer County detective, and Deputy U.S.
Marshal Rick Cope have been investigating Lindsey’s whereabouts since May
2001. Earlier this week, due to
pressure from the recent airing of “America’s Most Wanted” and leads
developed by the prosecutor’s Identification Unit, Lindsey’s location was
uncovered. Warrants were forwarded
to the Los Angeles Regional Fugitive Task Force who effectuated the arrest.
Lindsey
was indicted earlier this year for two rapes as well as failing to register his
address with law enforcement authorities as required under Megan’s Law
provisions.
On
February 13, 2000, he approached a 30-year-old woman at Bellevue Avenue near
Calhoun Street. Using a knife,
Lindsey forced her into a car and drove her to an alley where he sexually
assaulted her. He was indicted on
charges of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of aggravated sexual assault,
making terroristic threats and three weapons offenses.
On
May 23, 2001, Lindsey forced a 37-year-old-woman into a car on New Willow Street
and again drove to an alley and sexually assaulted her.
A separate grand jury indicted him on charges of first-degree kidnapping,
two counts of aggravated sexual assault, robbery, making terroristic threats and
three weapons offenses.
Lindsey
is also wanted on a warrant out of Chatsworth, Georgia, for sexual assault.
He is currently in custody in Los Angeles pending extradition
proceedings.
Despite
having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty
beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force targets violent fugitives wanted on state and local warrants. It is comprised of members of the Newark and Trenton Districts of the U.S. Marshals Service and officers of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, Union County Sheriff’s Department, the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Department of Corrections and the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Justice.
