FUGITIVES ARRESTED
TRENTON
– Two men wanted in a 1999 aggravated assault were arrested by members of the
Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Unit today, and numerous guns were
seized during one of the arrests, Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto announced.
Stephen
Peter Tobin (DOB 1/30/75), whose last known address was in the 300 block of
Hamilton Avenue, was taken into custody about 6:30 a.m. after officers traced
him to an apartment on Estates Boulevard in Hamilton. Following the arrest,
officers found a 12-guage, pump-action shotgun, a loaded SKS assault rifle, a
.22-caliber handgun and ammunition in the apartment, along with some cocaine.
Tobin was charged with numerous weapons offenses and possession of a controlled
dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute, Giaquinto said.
Tobin
was one of three men wanted in connection with a 1999 aggravated assault that
occurred about 1 a.m. Sept. 14 inside a tavern in the 1100 block of Chestnut
Avenue in Trenton. At that time, a Bordentown Township man was struck in the
face then kicked when he fell to the floor by the three assailants.
A
second man wanted in the incident, Michael Maffei (DOB 12/4/74), whose last
known address was in the 1000 block of Melrose Avenue, Trenton, was also
arrested by the Fugitive Unit yesterday. Maffei was taken into custody without
incident about 8:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Barricklo Avenue in Hamilton,
Giaquinto said.
The
third suspect, Steven R. Yeager (DOB 5/23/76), of the 1000 block of South Broad
Street, was arrested on the aggravated assault warrant several days ago
following a routine traffic stop.
Mercer
County Detectives Cory S. Kammler II and Joseph Angarone made today’s arrests,
assisted by Deputy U.S. Marshals Tim Hein and Rick Hefernan, along with
Detective Sgt. Brian Slattery of the New Jersey State Police and Patrol Officers
John Bucchere and Karen Wenger, who are all members of the Central Jersey
Fugitive Task Force.
