SIU INVESTIGATION YIELDS PCP, CASH
TRENTON – Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph L. Bocchini Jr. announced today that a month-long investigation led by his Special Investigations Unit (SIU), under the command of Lt. Robert Dispoto, concluded Wednesday with one arrest and the seizure of one and a half ounces of PCP and $1,300 in cash.
According to Bocchini, the investigation was a result of heavy foot traffic at a Washington Street residence. At approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, SIU detectives assisted by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and the Trenton Police Department Vice Enforcement Unit executed search warrants at 8 Washington Street.
Officers seized PCP from the kitchen table and PCP-laced cigarettes wrapped in aluminum foil from the mailbox. An additional amount of PCP was found in the medicine cabinet in a mouthwash bottle.
Byron Thompson, 29, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school, possession with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $150,000 bail.
The seized narcotics have an approximate street value of $2,500. A total of $1,300 in cash was seized from Thompson’s person and a dresser drawer.
Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
