TASK FORCE NABS TWO OUT-OF-STATE FUGITIVES
BEFORE BREAKFAST

Trenton, NJ — A Philadelphia man wanted for murder and a Trenton man running from Bucks County charges were arrested yesterday morning in Trenton by the Central Jersey Fugitive Task Force (CJFTF), Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto and U.S. Marshal Charles L. McNeal announced today.

Jesse Crews (DOB 6/6/82), of the 6600 block of North 17th Street in Philadelphia, Pa., was arrested at his sister’s residence on West Hanover Street in Trenton at approximately 7 a.m. on March 8.

He is wanted in the death of an unknown black male on Sunday, February 6, 2000.  At approximately 8:28 p.m. that evening, uniformed officers responded to a call of a shooting on the highway at the 1400 block of W. 72nd Avenue in Philadlephia.  Upon arrival they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the head.  He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Detective Sergeant Brian Slattery of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit conducted the investigation that led to Crews’ whereabouts.  Officers with the Fugitive Units of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Department of Corrections assisted with the arrest, along with officers from the Hamilton and Trenton police and a deputy from the U.S. Marshals Service.

After apprehending Crews, the task force proceeded to the 400 block of South Olden Avenue where they arrested Michael R. Matos (DOB 4/4/80) at approximately 8 a.m.

Matos was arrested in Mt. Holly on November 22, 2000 by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department as a fugitive from justice wanted out of Bucks County, Pa., where he is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.  On or about that date, he posted bail pending reappearance for the charges.

When Matos failed to reappear, Bucks County processed a governor’s warrant for his arrest and issued it to the state of New Jersey.  On February 24, 2001, the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department requested Mercer County Detective Cory S. Kammler II to employ the task force and apprehend Matos.

Both Crews and Matos are being held without bail in the Mercer County Corrections Center in Hopewell, NJ pending extradition proceedings.
