South Trenton Drug Arrest Made

Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto announced today that information received from the public through his office’s Drug Tip Hotline (989-6411) was responsible for exposing substantial drug activity from within 46 Daymond Street, Trenton, New Jersey.  The prosecutor noted that the South Trenton area of the city has been plagued with an increase in open-air drug markets and drug activity since August 2002.  South Trenton civic groups have been active in contacting police whenever possible.

Based on information from the drug hotline, a two-week investigation was initiated on 46 Daymond Street.  As a result, search warrants were secured for the premise and the occupant, who was identified as Tyrone Campbell.

On March 3, 2003, officers seized 22 decks of heroin, along with $4,100 in currency.  Also seized were 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one handgun magazine.

At the time of Campbell’s arrest, he was out on bail from a February 24, 2003 incident that also involved drugs and a weapon.  Bail on those charges was set at $100,000.

“This case once again demonstrates how the ability to post a bond adversely affects our communities,” Prosecutor Giaquinto said.  “The revolving door is alive and can only be closed with real bail reform like S643.”

Campbell is being held on $250,000 bail.
