MAN INDICTED ON DRUG CHARGES

He was identified by the Trenton Community Policing Program as a “Chronic Offender.”

Raheem J. Harris (DOB 12/23/73) of Kingsbury Square, Trenton, NJ, was indicted Thursday afternoon by a Mercer County grand jury on third-degree drug offenses, announced Mercer County Prosecutor Daniel G. Giaquinto.

“This case was made a priority due to the efforts of the Trenton Police Department’s Community Policing Program,” Giaquinto stated.

Harris was charged in a multi-count indictment with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS); possession with intent to distribute; possession with intent to distribute on or near school property; distribution of a CDS; and distribution of a CDS on or near school property.  All are third-degree offenses.  Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Downing presented the case to the grand jury.

If convicted, Harris could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Harris was arrested on the morning of June 15, 2000 when Trenton police officers observed him behind the wheel of a 1989 Mazda 626.  Recognizing him as an unlicensed driver from previous investigations, the officers stopped the vehicle.  The defendant was found in possession of 4.98 grams of crack cocaine and $647 in cash.

Despite having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
