Sexual Assault is a crime of violence in which the goal is to overpower, intimidate, and degrade the victim/survivor. It is motivated by aggression, the need to control and dominate. Sexual Assault can happen to anyone, regardless of age, race, class or gender. The majority of offenders are not strangers but persons who are known. Sexual Assault is not provoked by a persons style of dress or appearance. If you have been a victim of sexual assault, you are urged to call your police department right away.

The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children publishes a safety brochure with guidelines for parents to help ensure the safety of their children when they are "online". See the link below to their organization. Some of the tips they offer parents to teach their children are  1) Never give out personal information. 2) Know the service your child uses.  3) Never allow face to face arranged meetings. 4) Never respond to any message that is threatening, obscene or suggestive. 5) People may not be whom they say they are. 6) Keep online experiences a family activity as much as possible.
